Apple Cinnamon Fruit Leather

Autumn is the time for apples. I have really enjoyed playing with different apple recipes this Fall, and I’m excited to share one with you! I love making fruit leather as my son enjoys to eat them and they’re such a better alternative to the store bought “fruit-by-the-foot” (or other brands) that are full of glucose and fructose crap we shouldn’t be filling our bodies with.

First remember to wash your apples, and then you can peel and dice them, placing them into a medium saucepan with a little bit of water. Boil the apples for about 10 minutes!

Once the apples are cooked, put them into a food processor to blend up until smooth.

After it's all mixed together, place the apple sauce back into the pan and mix in the spices.

When everything is mixed together, evenly spread the mixture onto the sheet of your food dehydrator. Remember it's very important that it's even, or else some spots are going to take longer than others (I have made this mistake before and it's pretty annoying). However, if this does happen to you, you can alway cut around the parts that are going to take a bit longer, and keep those in for a couple more hours.

After 12ish hours, you should have this delicious toffee-like fruit leather. You can cut it up into rectangles or squares, adding some wax paper in between each piece to make sure they don't stick.

This is such a good alternative to the sugar-loaded fruit leathers you see in stores, and it tastes so much better in my opinion too! And it's better for you, which is also a plus!

Apple Cinnamon Fruit Leather
Such an amazing Fall recipe that you can make in your food dehydrator, or oven!
Ingredients
  • 8, peeled and cubed Apples
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 1/2 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
Instructions
1. Place the cubed apples into a medium saucepan, and add the water.2. Boil the apples on medium-high heat for about 10 minutes, or until soft.3. Add the apples to a food processor and put it on high for about a minute until it's smooth (I usually let the apples cool down a bit before I put them in the food processor).4. Put the apples back into the saucepan. Add the cinnamon and nutmeg, mixing it until it's all mixed together.5. Evenly add the mixture to the sheet on the dehydrator, or cooking sheet if you're going to use your oven.6. Cook the mixture at 130 degrees F for about 12 hours, or until done. I often check it at 10 hours just to see how much longer I think it will need.
