How to Travel with Cloth Diapers

Traveling with a little one is a lot of work, especially when they’re not potty trained yet, and ESPECIALLY when you’ve decided to cloth diaper. When you’re planning to take a trip with your little bundle of joy, it can be stressful to know what to pack when you’re cloth diapering your child (even more so when it’s your first time).

We recently went on a family trip with the kids, and this time around we had to lug around cloth diapers with us. Luckily it was only for one night so we didn’t have to pack too much stuff!

Things to Bring:
  • A large wet bag (one that you would use for a diaper pail.. this is what I pack the diapers in before we leave)
  • Enough cloth diapers to last for the time you’re going to be away (remember that breastfed babies soil about 10-15 diapers a day, but when they start solids it’s more like 6-10 per day. Always plan for more just in case)
  • 2-3 smaller wet bags, or another larger one (for the soiled diapers)
  • Disposables (because when all else fails, you’ll have a back up)
Also, if at all possible, try to get a place that has a washer or dryer just in case! One thing I’ve learned about cloth diapers is that you can never be too careful! I find they leak a lot more frequently than disposables. If you’re going for more than a night or two, you’ll want to wash them so your hotel room is doesn’t get all stinky!
I always get stressed out when it comes to what to pack, and when your child is still in diapers, it becomes even more stressful. The most important thing to remember is how many diapers your child soils in a day, and then pack a few extra to be safe!
